Praseodymium Production

Production

At extractional and chromatographic separations and fractional crystallization Lanthanide Praseodymium is concentrated with light lanthanides and first forms, which is the mixture of Praseodymium(III) and Neodymium(III) ("didimia") which then are separated from each other. Praseodymium metal is electrolyzed from anhydrous halogenides or applying metallothermic methods. The electroplating bath contains mixtures of anhydrous chlorides of praseodymium, sodium and potassium at 800-850°C with graphite cathode and cathode current density 4 Amp/sm2.
